Satellite tournaments could be very tempting to join with their offered convenience for anyone who is dreaming to be at the most prestigious Poker event in the world - the WSOP. But as mentioned earlier, it is not always a bed of roses with satellite tournaments.
* Earning a WSOP entry through a satellite tournament is pure hard work. Although the buy-in is lessened, that did not make the journey any easier. To gain a WSOP entry by joining satellite tourneys, you need to win over the bunch of other players who have the same goal as yours. Mostly, satellite tournaments are multi-table games, consisting of hundreds of players. Earning a top place towards the end requires you to work your best. You need to at least come out on top for three consecutive times to earn your seat.
* With satellite tournaments that require very minimum buy-ins, you can expect the competition of below average players. Facing meek competition is not at all helpful when you are facing the giants afterwards.
* Most Poker sites that offer satellite tournaments trap the winner to do some things for the promotion of their sites. If you do not want to be a human billboard at the WSOP, you better watch over the terms and conditions of the tournament before you even join them.
* When you are at a satellite tournament and you are not performing really well, you could spend more of your bankroll than you originally expected to do so. No, buy-ins in satellite tournaments do not blow off after a loss but they sure multiply for a persistent player who would chase his dream no matter what the price is. Before you know it, after joining several satellite tournaments that will hopefully earn you a coveted seat at the WSOP tourney, you are bankrupt!
In the end, joining a satellite tournament is not as easy as it seems. You need to work hard for it, you need to spend for it, and you need to be lucky enough to earn a win. And that is just about the first leg of the battle. Tougher challenges are coming your way once you qualify for the WSOP. So you better be prepared!
